Today I learned that the Secretary of the Commonwealth has rejected five of my nomination papers for the Tenth Suffolk District because of two technical errors relative to the zip code on the signature pages that I filed earlier this month. The Secretary reads the governing statute and the caselaw interpreting it as giving him the right to take this drastic action. Although my committee debated challenging this ruling, I have decided against it due to the time element and my military obligations.

At this point, I plan to continue working on the issues and problems that matter to voters in the Tenth Suffolk District. Because this process, and the tremendous outpouring of support that I’ve received from people across the Tenth Suffolk, has shown me that people want a more active voice in the House. They want someone who will listen to them and then do something about their concerns. In short, you’ll still see me around. And I’ll remain dedicated to public service regardless of today’s small setback.

Finally, Kathleen and I want to thank everyone that’s supported us through this process. Your encouragement and enthusiasm has meant so much to us. We appreciate your hard work, your commitment to strengthening our community, one that doesn’t just show up during election years. We look forward to continuing that work with you in the years to come.
